A juvenile is facing weapon- and drug-related charges after a reported firearm discharge that occurred early Monday morning. According to the Owensboro Police Department, the suspect tried to flee law enforcement and attempted to discard what was discovered to be a stolen firearm. The juvenile also has several other previous charges.
According to a release, at 12:24 a.m. OPD responded to the 1300 block of West 7th Street in reference to a group of juveniles who had possibly fired a handgun. Officers were given a description of one juvenile that was suspected to be responsible for the firearm discharge. When officers arrived, the group of juveniles fled on foot, according to OPD.
Officers initiated a foot pursuit of the juvenile believed to have been armed. During the foot pursuit, the juvenile was observed by officers discarding what was later discovered to be a firearm and taken into custody a short time later, according to the release. Further investigation revealed that the firearm had been stolen from a location in the county and reported to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
The juvenile was also found to be in possession of additional ammunition, marijuana, and items consistent with drug trafficking when taken into custody, according to OPD.
This juvenile was transported to Warren Regional Juvenile Detention for:
- Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm)
- Possession of Handgun by Minor, Second or Subsequent Offense
- Fleeing or Evading Police, Second Degree (On Foot)
- Trafficking in Marijuana (Less than 8 oz), First Offense (Enhancement)
The juvenile has been previously charged with:
- Possession of Handgun by Minor, First Offense
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
- Assault, Fourth Degree (Domestic Violence) — Minor Injury
- Assault, Fourth Degree (Domestic Violence) — No Visible Injury
- Assault, Fourth Degree – No Visible Injury
- Theft by Unlawful Taking Under $500
- Criminal Trespassing, Second Degree
- Theft by Unlawful Taking – Contents from Vehicle
- Theft of Legend Drug, First Offense under $300
- Theft by Unlawful Taking – Contents from Vehicle
- Theft by Unlawful Taking – Bicycles under $500
- Receiving Stolen Property Under $500
- Disorderly Conduct, Second Degree
