Western Kentucky University Head Basketball Coach Rick Stansbury stopped in Owensboro Tuesday evening to introduce local fans to some of the players on the roster this year.

Speaking aty the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Stansbury said he hopes to spend more time in Owensboro and make stronger connections with the people of the city.

“I want to get back out and spend the time with all these small communities, and Owensboro is one of the biggest and best we can get into,” Stansbury said.

The connection wouldn’t just stop with promoting WKU, as he hopes to one day schedule a game with Kentucky Wesleyan College’s basketball team.

With the season quickly approaching, Stansbury said he is excited about the team and they plan to work as a unit. Guard Dontaie Allen said that while he’s never been to Owensboro, being in the city for the event marks his first time getting to see the community outside of just leisure travel.

Allen said he is thankful for the support that comes from the city and going into the season he echoes Stansbury’s thoughts.

“I feel like it’s a really special team,” Allen said. “There’s a lot of talent from top to bottom in every position so it’s gonna be really fun and the guys like each other.”
