A member of a contracting crew died Monday evening in a wood chipper accident in the Stonegate neighborhood, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday morning, DCSO identified the man as Joseph “Joey” Wesley Manire, 46, of Crofton.

According to a release, DCSO and the Daviess County Fire Department responded to a traumatic injury on Stonegate Drive at approximately 5 p.m. Monday

“A local tree trimming contractor was doing some work, when an employee became tangled and fell partially into a wood chipper,” according to the release.

Manire was pronounced dead at the scene by the Daviess County coroner. The investigation is ongoing and no foul play is suspected.

Editors note: The accident is not directly related to the popular lighting displays and did not occur on the Lashbrook property which is home to many displays. In this situation, the accident happened directly across from a very popular attraction — less than 20 feet away from the Lashbrook property — and our photo conveys the emergency response presence as well as the proximity to the attraction.
