DJ Johnson is heading back to Frankfort for a third term as State Representative, securing 63% of the votes in a General Election victory over challenger Michael Johnson. Johnson’s 13th district is entirely within Daviess County and primarily covers the central and some eastern areas of the county.

DJ Johnson was elected to the seat in 2017 and lost his first re-election bid by one vote. He was elected to a second term in 2021.

Johnson earned 8,387 votes Tuesday to serve a third term, while Michael Johnson received 4,870 votes.

“To begin with, it’s very gratifying and also very humbling; not just that I won, but it’s nice to have a margin of victory like that,” Johnson said. “There is just a general trend in our country right now towards Republicans. I also think people are getting to know me and recognizing things I’ve done in Frankfort.”

As a State Representative, he has joined numerous committees, including the State Government, Natural Resources & Energy, Economic Development & Workforce Investment, and Local Government.

Locally, Johnson said he’s discussing juvenile crime with the community members and leaders.

“I’m working from two perspectives on that,” he said. “One is I want to be a part of what is happening in the community, but I also want community leaders to tell me what I can do in Frankfort to help locally.”

As part of his advocacy for the community, Johnson has helped Owensboro-Daviess County receive several partnerships throughout the community and surrounding areas. This includes the new veterans’ workforce initiative and the redistricting of the Kentucky court districts to grant Owensboro-Daviess County a new family court judge, among other initiatives.

“I want to thank everyone involved with my campaign and those involved with the work we’ve been doing,” Johnson said. “I’m repeating this, but it is very humbling to have support like this, and it encourages me to go and do better.”
