Property Maintenance Manager Joe Sublett was named the 2022 Cap Gardner Employee of the Year by the City of Owensboro after 20 years of service.

Sublett was nominated by three individuals who said he continues to make efforts toward helping the homeless and the less fortunate find resources for survival.

“In nearly every instance, he could have addressed the immediate issue and satisfied the requirements of the task at hand. He exemplifies what it means to be of service to the community currently in less-than-desirable circumstances,” Mayor Tom Watson read from the nomination letters.

Additionally, Sublett was recognized for performing well over his time in the department. He was also described as professional, spunky, optimistic, passionate, intelligent, resourceful, and selfless.

“It’s nice to be appreciated for doing my job, and it’s pretty dusty in here,” Sublett joked as he fought back tears while saying thanks.

Sublett was joined by his family to accept the celebration.

The Employee of the Year Award was named after Cap Gardner to honor City employees who showcase exemplary work. This is the 16th consecutive year of the award.
