Another roundabout is coming to a busy intersection in Owensboro: the intersection of Old Hartford Road and Fairview Drive/Foors Lane at the east corner of Hillcrest Golf Course.

All four cross streets of the intersection are only two lanes (with no dedicated turn lane from any side) and there are no left-turn lights.

The plans for a roundabout started with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet back in 2015 to help ease traffic at the intersection. Because of some of the designs of the road, the City Commission had to approve an easement at their latest meeting.

“City staff including Parks Department, Engineering and myself have worked with the state on the project and we’re comfortable with the current design of the easement,” City Manager Nate Pagan said.

The easement will require Kenergy to relocate their infrastructure that is nearby, and Pagan said the new build will have little to no effect on Hillcrest.

Kiersten Jaggers, KYTC District 2 spokesperson, said engineers decided to go with a roundabout because they felt like it was safer for pedestrians as well as vehicles.

Jaggers said the design plans are nearly complete. If funding is found, they anticipate to begin construction in summer 2024.
