Community officials are preparing to submit nine road projects to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, with hopes the state works toward sponsoring two of the projects.
Tom Lovett, Director of the Owensboro-Daviess County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), said that the yearly list operates like a wishlist — meaning if they ask for certain projects, then KYTC will choose some from that list and work toward the chosen goals.
Lovett said KYTC is currently planning on sponsoring the following three projects:
- Improve KY 54 from U.S. Hwy 60 to Bold Forbes Way
- Reconstruct the intersection at Old Hartford Road and Fairview Drive
- Reconstruct Fairview Drive from Settles Lane to KY 54
If KYTC is open to sponsoring a fourth project, the committee hopes it would be the reconstruction of Thruston-Dermont Road from KY 54 to Hayden Road.
In addition, pending approval by the MPO, the following projects will be submitted in hopes to be selected for sponsorship:
- Reconstruct Pleasant Valley Road from KY 144 to the improvements north of the Hospital
- Widen Todd Bridge Road from Keller Road to Southtown Boulevard, including a shared-use path
- Construct a connector road from Grimes Avenue to KY 603
- Improve KY 54 from Bold Forbes Way to Thruston-Dermont Road
- Improve KY 54 from Thruston-Dermont Road to Countryside Drive
- Reconstruct Thurston-Dermont Road from near Hayden Road (MP 4.71) to KY 144
- Reconstruct Goetz Drive from Southtown Boulevard to Frederica Street
- Reconstruct Hayden Road from KY 603 to Thruston-Dermont Road
- Reconstruct Pleasant Valley Road from Hayden Road to Thruston-Dermont Road
Lovett said the MPO will submit those nine to KTYC to be “scored” and prioritized throughout the District 2 area. Lovett said that District 2 has more than 50 projects to select from, so not every project will be chosen to move forward.
KYTC District 2 officials said they are meeting later this week to identify which projects the office will be sponsoring.
