OPD: Charges added after 2 juveniles in possession of handguns deemed to be involved in other investigations

Update, March 9 — Two juveniles were arrested earlier this week after being found with two loaded handguns while trespassing. Owensboro Police Department has since determined the juveniles were involved in several ongoing investigations, and the suspects now face additional charges.

According to an OPD release Thursday, the juveniles were involved in a theft of a firearm from a vehicle in the 1000 Block of Goetz Drive on March 5, and in possession of a vehicle that had been reported stolen from the 1500 Block of Richbrooke Trace on March 6.

Both juveniles have additionally been charged with:

• Theft by Unlawful Taking – Firearm
• Criminal Mischief, 3rd Degree
• Receiving Stolen Property $1,000 < $10,000

Original story, March 7 — Two male juveniles were arrested overnight after being found with two loaded handguns while trespassing on Highland Point Drive, according to the Owensboro Police Department. Both juveniles have prior criminal history.

According to a release, at approximately 11:56 p.m. officers located two male juveniles in the 3100 block of Highland Point Drive while conducting business checks. The juveniles were near unattended vehicles and during the investigation, officers determined the juveniles did not have permission to be on the property.  

The juveniles were arrested and officers located two loaded handguns in their possession. The juveniles were transported to the Warren County Regional Juvenile Detention Center. 

Juvenile No. 1 was charged with:

• Criminal Trespassing, 3^rd Degree 
• Possession of Handgun by Minor, 1^st Offense 
• Possession of Marijuana (Enhancement) 
• Drug Paraphernalia – Buy/Possess (Enhancement) 

Juvenile No. 1 has previously been charged with: 

• Abuse of Teacher 
• Assault, 4^th Degree (No Visible Injury) 
• Criminal Mischief, 3^rd Degree 
• Theft by Unlawful Taking – Shoplifting U/$500 

Juvenile No. 2 was charged for:  

• Criminal Trespassing, 3^rd Degree 
• Possession of Handgun by Minor, 1^st Offense 

Juvenile No. 2 has previously been charged with:  

• Wanton Endangerment, 1^st Degree (5 Counts) 
• Possession of Handgun by Minor, 1^st Offense
