Rpm Promotions recently announced the inaugural Nicky and Earl Hayden Annual Memorial Dirt Track Motorcycle Race. The event is scheduled for June 9-10 at the Daviess County Lion’s Club Fairgrounds in Philpot.
Rpm said in a release that 6.9% of all proceeds would go to the Nicky Hayden Memorial Foundation, which focuses on providing for kids and families in the Owensboro area. Often referred to as “The Kentucky Kid,” Hayden wore the iconic 69 during his tenure as an elite professional motorcycle racer.
“I’ve raced against Nicky and Tommy several times,” said race director Jeff Hiers. “It’s a blessing to be able to put on this event in Owensboro to honor such iconic people.”
Earl Hayden was Nicky’s father and was considered a legend across the two-wheeled racing community.
“We know what the family has meant to the racing world,” Hiers said. “I’ve known the family since I was little, all the way back to the Louisville Downs days.”
The race will feature a $10,000 Power Elite Purse. There will also be 13 additional classes from 50cc on up.
“We are looking forward to putting on a great race event for two great icons and a great family,” Hiers said. “We look forward to everyone coming to 6/9 weekend on Friday and Saturday.”
