City Officials have opened the application for the vacant City Commissioner seat after Larry Maglinger died last Monday. They will be accepting applications until May 11 at 5 p.m.

In an announcement made Monday morning, the Board of Commissioners made the applications available on their website here and can be picked up at City Hall during business hours.

Following the closing of the application, all applicants will be interviewed during a Special Called Meeting of the Owensboro Board of Commissioners on May 16, 2023, at 6 p.m. which will be open to the public.

Applications will be accepted both in-person at City Hall and over email to City Clerk Beth Davis’s email [email protected].

The selected person will serve the remainder of the term — ending on December 31, 2024.

In accordance with Kentucky State Statute, the deadline to apply is 10 days. Immediately following the interviews, the Board of Commission will vote to select a replacement member by a roll call vote. The applicant with the most vote will be selected.

The newly appointed Commissioner will be sworn in by Mayor Tom Watson or Davis and their appointment will become effective immediately thereafter.

City Manager Nate Pagan previously stated that the Commission felt it wasn’t appropriate to rush into filling the seat.

“I think the general consensus would be we’d like to wait before we initiate that process, out of respect for Commissioner Maglinger and his family and the position he occupied,” Pagan said last week.
