A 41-year-old Daviess County man has been charged with first-degree robbery for an incident that occurred Monday at a convenience store on KY 54.

Jason M. Dowdy was arrested late Tuesday night and is currently being held at the Daviess County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond. His next court appearance is set for May 19.

According to a release, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office responded to 4510 KY 54 (located at the intersection with Miller’s Mill Road across from Ritzy’s) at 4:40 a.m Monday in reference to a robbery.

According to DCSO, upon arrival deputies were advised an unknown male “dressed in all black with a mask, gloves, backpack, and gun entered the store, presented a handgun, and demanded keys to the slot machine located inside the store.”

DCSO said customers then came into the store, at which time the suspect hid from the customers’ view while still watching the store attendant.

“The store attendant was able to get himself and the customer out of the store and at that time the suspect fled the store on foot. (Owensboro Police Department) K9 was requested and a track of the area was conducted resulting in several items of evidence,” according to the release.

Detectives later developed Dowdy as a suspect. He was located and interviewed, and confessed to the robbery according to DCSO.
