Mother's Day Event

The Rev. Rhondalyn Randolph is wanting to make this Mother’s Day weekend special for local moms who have lost a child too soon due to an unexpected death. She is hosting an event, which includes a catered dinner, this Saturday, and the community is able to attend.

The event will be held at the H.L. Neblett Community Center at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The mothers being honored will receive a limousine ride, a gift card to their favorite restaurant, and flowers.

Those wanting to attend and help celebrate the mothers can reserve a ticket on the event website here. Tickets are $20, and all the money goes toward the costs associated with honoring the mothers with the gifts and event.

Randolph said the idea for the celebration came from noticing the number of deaths of younger people in the community.

“Even when you have other kids and you still have a long life ahead of you, living your life without a child you brought into the world, it’s hard,” Randolph said.

In the future, Randolph hopes the event can help create a network of support for mothers in the community.

“We’re a small community. I feel like they could come together across those different ways they may have lost the kids and still be a source of support,” she said.

Randolph hopes to make this an annual event.
