The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam where the caller is using real DCSO employee names and trying to convince people they owe a fine that needs to be paid immediately.
“Scams are becoming more and more advanced with newer technology and becoming easier to fall victim to,” Sheriff Brad Youngman said. “This particular scam is using real DCSO employees names and titles, and also at times is spoofed to appear on caller ID that it is coming from our business phone lines.”
Law enforcement will never call you asking you to pay for anything. If you receive a call such as this, hang up immediately.
“We want people to be aware that because this is happening so frequently they will probably eventually get one of these calls,” Youngman said. “Please spread the word, especially to vulnerable populations such as the elderly and even younger people who are very used to quick convenient methods of resolving things.”
