Jericho Young, now 18, was indicted for manslaughter in March for allegedly fatally shooting a man on Arlington Drive last year. Young appeared in court Monday, with his lawyer saying they are hoping to reach a resolution in the case without going to trial.

Young was 17 when the shooting took place at a home in the 3600 block of Arlington Drive on May 20, 2022. Because he was a juvenile at the time, his name was not released until his first appearance in Circuit Court due to state law.

According to the Owensboro Police Department, officers responded at approximately 10:10 p.m. and located William D. Frazier, 38, with multiple gunshot wounds. Frazier was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Young was initially charged with murder at the time of the shooting. He was additionally charged with receiving stolen property after investigators determined the handgun he was found with had been reported stolen, OPD officials previously said.

The murder charge has since been changed to first-degree manslaughter, which is a Class B felony and is defined by state law as intentionally causing the death of a person “under circumstances that do not constitute murder because he acts under the influence of extreme emotional disturbance.”

Young appeared in front of Circuit Court Judge Lisa Jones on Monday for a bond hearing. Young’s Defense Lawyer Alan Simpson said that he and Prosecuting Attorney Kristin Whitney have been discussing a resolution for the case.

“We’ve been exchanging some emails and we are actively discussing a resolution of this case that would be fair to all concerned,” Simpson said.

Whitney said there are no guarantees about where they are headed with the case.

No trial date has been set for the case. Young will make another court appearance on July 20, pending any other developments in the case before that date.
