Darrius M. Quarles, 22, died after a physical altercation at the Daviess County Detention Center at 6:50 a.m. Sunday morning, Jailer Art Maglinger reports.
The deputies within the DCDC responded to housing unit C-106 and upon arrival, they noticed Quarles was unresponsive. The deputy called for on-site medical personnel to respond to the medical emergency, according to Maglinger.
Quarles was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 7:38 a.m., DCDC reports.
The Daviess County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy and Quarles’ family has been notified.
DCDC contacted the Kentucky State Police to investigate the incident and will conduct an administrative review. An autopsy is scheduled by the Coroner’s Office.
