The Owensboro Museum of Fine Art is offering its second free art camp of the summer Tuesday-Friday for ages 6 to 15. “Flexi Plexi” will offer experiences in using glass and plexiglas as an art medium and will be led by local artists and educators.
Morning sessions will run from 9-11 a.m. and are designed for ages 6-10, while afternoon classes run from 1-3 p.m. and are for ages 11-15. All camps feature a guided tour of the current museum exhibition, offering campers an opportunity to experience the works of professional artists.
The free camp programming is now in its 19 season and is specifically designed to reach the community’s financially challenged children, according to a release from the museum. Half of the seats in each class are reserved for registrants from local community service organizations. After those are filled, reservations from the general public are confirmed.
Students will be able to explore a variety of subjects including landscape, still life, and interior themes. Classes will take place in the museum’s Ryan Sculpture Park and in ArtLand, the museum’s interactive art studio. The camp theme is designed to interpret the museum’s upcoming exhibition, “Glorious Glass.”
Selected works from the “Flexi Plexi” camp will be chosen for display later in the summer in the museum’s Waymond O. Morris Young At Art Gallery.
The museum’s regular hours are Tuesday-Friday from 12-5 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Admission to the museum is free although voluntary donations are requested of $3 for adults and $2 for children.
