DCSO: Man dies from injuries sustained in 2-vehicle wreck Monday

A Livermore man died Wednesday from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident that occurred Monday in the 8500 block of U.S. 431, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a release, the wreck occurred just after 1:30 p.m. on Monday when a truck operated by 73-year-old Gaylon Tomes, of Livermore, was traveling northbound on the highway and a truck operated by 69-year-old Jerry Massey, of Utica, was traveling southbound.

Massey’s truck crossed over the center line and struck the Tomes’ truck head-on, according to the release. 

After the initial collision, Massey’s truck went off the roadway and struck a utility pole and ditch, per the release. Tomes’ truck also came to rest in a ditch. 

Tomes was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in critical condition and died from his injuries on Wednesday. Massey was transported to OHRH in serious condition. 

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor at this time, according ot DCSO.

The Utica and Daviess County fire departments and AMR Ambulance also responded to the incident.
