Owensboro Municipal Utilities is looking to bid out the demolition of the Hillcrest Golf Course water tank, as OMU plans to build a new booster container in the neighborhood to raise water pressure in the Heartland and Hillcrest areas.

Brad Howton, OMU Director of Customer & Shared Services, said the water tank at the golf course has not been in service since 2017. He reported that water functionality has been produced at the legal minimum and meets requirements since its closure.

He noted that while the pressure has met the legal requirements, the water pressure may not be to the residents’ preference.

Hillcrest currently has an underground tank that has been in service, Howton said. The new water tank would not go on Hillcrest property; rather, it would be situated elsewhere in that area to balance out the accessibility.

“This is more for line protection and improves that area’s water pressure,” Howton said.

Howton says they plan to have it bid out in the next couple of months. OMU will pay for the project entirely using ARPA funds after the City of Owensboro allocated $2.5 million to the agency.
