OPD: Suspect detained following tip from public, held in DCDC

Update 10 p.m. – After fleeing Owensboro Motel this afternoon, Owensboro Police Department officers received a tip from the public that Embry was observed at English Park. Officers arrived on the scene and located Embry. Embry threatened officers claiming he had a firearm and was going to use it. Embry was taken into custody without incident and was found to be unarmed.

Johnathan Embry (34 years old of Owensboro) was arrested, charged, and transported to the Daviess County Detention Center on the following charges:

  • Fleeing or Evading Police 2nd Degree (On Foot)
  • Resisting Arrest (2 Counts)
  • Outstanding Warrants

Embry has previously been charged with the following:

  • Parole Violation for Felony Offense
  • Probation Violation for Felony Offense (2 Counts)
  • Arson 2nd Degree
  • Criminal Mischief 1st Degree (4 Counts)
  • Assault 2nd Degree
  • Assault 3rd Degree – Police Officer or Probation Officer
  • Burglary 2nd Degree (2 Counts)
  • Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense (Methamphetamine)
  • Terroristic Threatening 3rd Degree (2 Counts)
  • Theft of Parts from a Vehicle
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Fleeing or Evading Police 2nd Degree (On Foot)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Public Intoxication – Controlled Substance (Excludes Alcohol) (2 Counts)
  • Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree (2 Counts)

Update: 7:00 p.m. – OPD Public Information Officer Dylan Evans said that the subject, Johnathan Embry, 34, fled the scene Saturday afternoon. OPD is looking for information regarding Embry’s whereabouts.

Embry was first observed by officers and had outstanding warrants. After officers attempted to make contact with the subject, he fled into the Owensboro Motel. Evans said that OPD’s Emergency Response Team and the Hazardous Device Unit responded to the call to assist.

Members of the team could not attempt entry through the door as it was barricaded with furniture. Upon entering the unit, it was discovered that before securing the scene and setting the perimeter the subject fled through a small opening at ground level.

UPDATE: 3:37 p.m. – Owensboro Police Department has cleared the Owensboro Motel and reopened Triplett Street to traffic.

An active situation is occurring at Owensboro Motel on Triplett Street with several Owensboro Police Department officers on scene, according to OPD officials.

Triplett Street has been blocked off at E. Parrish Avenue.

OPD Public Information Officer Dylan Evans said that the incident began after a suspect fled into a room at the Motel.

“Officers got out with a subject who is know to have a warrant and he fled into a room and will not respond to officers,” Evans said.

Officers received a tip from the public that Embry was observed at English Park. Officers arrived on the scene and located Embry. Embry threatened officers claiming he had a firearm and was going to use it. Embry was taken into custody without incident and was found to be unarmed.

He was arrested, charged, and transported to the Daviess County Detention Center on the following charges:

  • Fleeing or Evading Police 2nd Degree (On Foot)
  • Resisting Arrest (2 Counts)
  • Outstanding Warrants
