Orangetheory Fitness (OTF) – a boutique fitness studio offering high-intensity interval training during hour-long group workouts for all fitness levels – opened in January of this year. Located at 2490 Calumet Trace Suite 1 in the Gateway Commons, OTF has steadily grown its membership.

Studio manager Sam Schneider said the global brand has always aspired to open in the tristate. She added that international brands often overlook Owensboro and Evansville, and she’s glad that OTF prioritized the two communities.

“Opening in Owensboro has always been important to us,” she said. “To be able to bring OTF to Owensboro has been very exciting and helps us with our goal of helping as many people as possible in making their fitness journey a success.”

The state-of-the-art studio features advanced equipment that tracks and records heart rate, distances, and efforts during every class. The facility also features lockers and showers and conveniently offers class registration on the Orangetheory app.

The studio operates under one slogan: “More life.”

“We want everyone, regardless of their fitness level, to be able to come in and spend a few hours a week with us so that they can live longer, more vibrant lives outside the studio,” Schnieder said. “When we see that shift in our members, we truly believe they carry that into the community, making it a more vibrant place to be.”

Orangetheory is a class-based studio, meaning members can’t just walk in and do their workout. It opens at 5 a.m. and has classes throughout the day and evening, with options for all fitness levels.

According to the Orangetheory website, “During our heart-rate based HIIT workout, your coach will guide you through our five different heart rate zones: resting, easy, challenging, uncomfortable and All Out, telling you when to push harder and when to pull back for recovery. The goal is to spend 12 minutes or more with your heart rate elevated in ‘The Orange Zone’ to boost your metabolism, burn fat, and burn more calories.”

A workout alternates between short periods of intense work followed immediately by a  recovery period of the same length or longer. This cycle is repeated throughout the workout.

The studio uses technology tracking so that members “know how hard they need to work to achieve the best results,” according to Orangetheory’s site.

“Being a part of the Owensboro community has truly exceeded any and all expectations that we could have had. Owensboro is filled with the best people, and being able to interact with them on a daily basis is so wonderful.”

Schneider said the support from the community has been incredible, and she and the team cherish all the new relationships.

“Everyone has been so welcoming not only to us but to every person that walks through our doors,” she said. “I have seen so many new friendships form, and there is never a day that goes by that members are not cheering each other on and welcoming new ones in.”
