Local business Santa’s Toys is closing its Owensboro location this October after being open for almost three years.

They announced on Facebook their last day will be October 15 and will focus on continuing its Santa Claus location.

The toy store opened their Heartland Crossings location in November 2020 and specialized in selling children’s toys and games like plush toys, puppets, arts and crafts, puzzles, dolls and remote-controlled cars. Owner Mark Schmidt said they aimed to provide timeless toys when they opened.

Santa’s Toys is somewhat unique for the area in offering specialty toys. That means they don’t have licensing, such as Disney or Marvel. Schmidt said that ensures children won’t grow tired of a specific toy — like a certain superhero or princess — and ask for something new after just a few weeks or months.

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday – Saturday and 12 – 4 p.m. on Sunday and closed on Monday and Tuesday.
