Wendell Foster will host its annual Special Needs Expo on Saturday at the Owensboro Convention Center. The expo allows community agencies to join forces in providing information about resources and services to assist families in supporting a loved one with a disability.
The expo will run from 12-3 p.m. at the Owensboro Convention Center. There is no charge or registration required to attend, and door prize drawings will be held throughout the day.
Nonprofit organizations, state agencies, and private businesses will discuss many services on-site. Those services include advocacy and support, assistive technology, autism services, behavior supports, day programs, durable medical equipment, early childhood, education, employment, future planning, health and rehab, recreation, residential services, and waivers.
“Wendell Foster understands that navigating the world of disabilities can be challenging, and sought to find a way to support families on their journey,” said Cindy Huston, Director of the Assistive Technology and Resource Center at Wendell Foster. “Through the Special Needs Expo, we offer a way for community organizations to join together in sharing about their services.”
This year’s Expo features a mini-sports fest, with activities such as basketball, football, baseball, and more. Athletes from the Special Olympics Kentucky Area 2 chapter will be on hand to provide friendly competition during the activities.
Kim Johnson, Area 2 Director and Daviess County Coordinator for the Special Olympics, will be present to provide information on sports and programming provided by the Special Olympics.
