The Daviess County Extension Homemakers are hosting an event called “Christmas in the American Colonies” at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“Christmas in Colonial America did not resemble the brightly lit festivities we have today,” a release from the Homemakers said. “There were no greeting cards, slick advertisements, or piles of expensive gifts. European immigrants brought their religious and ethnic beliefs with them, and attitudes toward Christmas varied accordingly.”

Organizers said the event will let attendees go back in time to experience what Christmas was like many generations ago. The event will feature Award-Winning Kentucky Author Eddie Price, a Hawesville native known for his historical and children’s books as well as his unique storytelling performances.

The event will be held at the Daviess County Extension Office at 4800A New Hartford Road (on the Owensboro Technical Community College campus). Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the extension office. Call  270-685-8480 for more information.
