Calumet Trace Senior Living on Tuesday finally celebrated the grand opening of its 115-apartment facility. Executive Director Justin Carwile calls the new building a “cruise ship on land.”

The facility is located on Calumet Trace behind the new Daviess County Middle School, near Gateway Commons.

Carwile has been in charge of senior living centers for 10 years now and said he was excited to bring his passion for senior care to his hometown.

“Owensboro needed this and I’m very proud to offer this to the community,” Carwile said.

Listing other developments in Owensboro such as downtown projects and the expansion on KY 54, Carwile said they are bringing their “piece of the pie” to what makes the community grow.

Calumet Trace offers rooms for independent living, memory care, and personal care for those 55 and older. All options have access to 24/7 on-site nursing and caregiving services.

With personal care, residents and their families make a daily schedule based on the residents’ needs and lifestyles — ranging from nursing attention to activities offered. For memory care, the facility provides specialized care for residents undergoing memory loss.

Calumet Trace allows independent living and personal care residents to live with their pets, while memory care residents are allowed supervised pet visits.

Carwile said the staff’s dedication to ensuring the residents are tended to helps make the living experience special.

“The people make the difference here. If something is not for the betterment of the resident, then our staff is not going to do it. They truly care about each of the residents here,” Carwile said.

Marketing Director Maleah Moore said they have moved residents in since October, and so far residents have been adjusting well to the “worry-free lifestyle” the facility offers.

“We really try to offer a worry-free lifestyle for our residents,” she said. “Maintenance and utilities are included for our residents.”
