Owensboro native Thomas Galloway has been named the Friends of Sinners (FOS) Operations Director. Galloway is an alumnus of the FOS program and expressed his desire to use his experience to make a positive impact in other men’s lives.
Galloway moved to Louisville for about 15 years before returning to Owensboro in early 2022, when he entered the FOS program.
“Ever since I went through the program, I have given my life over to Christ,” he said. “I was saved while I was in the program, and then I have been after a ministry position ever since just to serve in the best capacity I can for the Lord’s kingdom.”
Toward the end of his time in the program, Galloway was working at UniFirst and part-time at the Daniel Pitino Shelter. He eventually earned the opportunity to serve as the shelter’s director of operations.
Galloway said after that, “God just paved the way” for him to return to FOS.
“My heart just lies with this program and making a difference in men’s lives,” he said.
According to their website, Friends of Sinners is a Christ-centered residential substance recovery program focusing on “the restoration and reconciliation of men and women to Christ through biblical truths, accountability, and life skills.”
Galloway said his goals include implementing a holistic approach to programming. He also hopes to help break down any barriers clients have, including any medical issues, life skills, financial literacy, and more.
“It’s basically just a discipleship role,” Galloway said. “The only thing that I believe that can cure addiction is is the power of Christ and the Gospel.”
Galloway called FOS a game-changer for the community.
“If guys can come in and fully submit to what we offer, first off with discipleship and getting into the Biblical truths (it can make a big impact),” he said. “Then they build relationships with us, relationships with each other, and relationships with community as well as employers. I think in turn, what that does is set them up for success to move on from a life that they’ve they’ve led in addiction.”
Jordan Wilson, FOS development director, said Galloway will be an asset to the FOS ministry.
“We are all very excited to get Tom on board,” he said. “We wanted someone who is going to be passionate about the work we do with experience, so Tom was the perfect choice.”
