David Gerard Mudd, founder of God’s Outreach and second-generation owner of Mudd’s Furniture, died Saturday at the age of 63.
Mudd’s Furniture was founded by David’s parents Lawrence and Callista Mudd in 1951. David was born in 1960. Lawrence passed away in 1989, and the business has been under David’s ownership ever since. The company’s website says that although the store has grown and gone through many changes since then, one principle has remained the same: “we believe if we treat our customers the way we want to be treated, God will continue to bless us, as He has so abundantly blessed us in the past.”
Before taking over the family business, David Mudd graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School and then attended Christ for the Nations Bible College.
Dedicated to helping others, Mudd also opened God’s Outreach Inc. in 1995, which provided food and necessities to the tri-state area’s food banks, schools, and more. God’s Outreach also helped with hurricane and tornado relief efforts. Mudd also participated in mission trips to England and South Africa.
Mudd was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Raymond Mudd. He is survived by his wife Deborah; his children Bridgette, April, Danielle, and David Lawrence Mudd (Shelby); and several grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday afternoon, with visitation that morning and the night prior. Read his full obituary and information on services here.
