OPD: Owensboro man charged with burglary of local diner

A 58-year-old Owensboro man has been charged with the overnight burglary of a local diner, according to the Owensboro Police Department. 

According to a release, officers responded at 4:20 a.m. Monday to a local diner in the 1200 block of East 18th Street for a burglary complaint. OPD did not identify the business in their release, but a police report shows it was Kim’s Diner. The diner’s owner also posted on the business Facebook page that “We will be closed today due to us being robbed at 4 am this morning.”

According to OPD, upon arrival officers observed the front glass door to be broken but found no one inside. 

“Officers made contact with the business owner who advised officers she observed on security camera footage [of] a male subject entering her business. Officers observed money from the cash register to be missing and were advised a firearm was stolen that was next to the register,” according to the release. “Based upon tips, officers were able to identify the male subject from the diner.”

Officers located the male suspect at a local motel in the 1800 block of Triplett Street, according to OPD. Edward Tinsley was arrested and transported to the Daviess County Detention Center on the charges of first-degree burglary and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

A post on Kim’s Diner following the arrest said the restaurant will be back open on Tuesday. 

According to OPD, Tinsley has previously been charged with the following: 
• Trafficking in Controlled Substance,  1st Degree – 1st Offense (Less than 2 Grams Methamphetamine) 
• Trafficking in Synthetic Drugs – 1st Offense (2 Counts) 
• Possession of Controlled Substance, 1st Degree – 1st Offense (Cocaine) 
• Possession of Controlled Substance, 1st Degree – 1st Offense (Drug Unspecified) 
• Burglary 3rd Degree (8 Counts) 
• Persistent Felony Offender (2 Counts) 
• Tampering with Physical Evidence (2 Counts) 
• Fleeing or Evading Police, 2nd Degree (On Foot) 
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (4 Counts) 
• Resisting Arrest (2 Counts) 
• Probation Violation (For Felony Offense) (2 Counts) 
• Public Intoxication – Controlled Substance (Excludes Alcohol)
