A 20-foot inflatable colon replica will return to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital this week as part of an event to raise awareness of colorectal cancer.
Owensboro Health is again partnering with the Kentucky Cancer Program for the event, to be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on March 20 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in the Medical Office Building (Entrance B).
“Colon cancer is the number two cause of cancer death in Kentucky,” said Jamie Daniel, Cancer Control Specialist with the Kentucky Cancer Program. “But 9 out of 10 colon cancers may be prevented or cured with regular screenings. If you are age 45 or older, or have a personal or family history, talk to your healthcare provider about getting checked for colon cancer. Don’t wait – early colon cancer may have no symptoms. March is National Colon Cancer Awareness Month, and a great time to screened – it may save your life.”
Along with the interactive 20-foot inflatable colon, the event will feature resources such as preventive education, information about cancer care services, and much more.
Visitors to the exhibit will be able to:
- Walk through the colon model
- Learn how the colon works
- Learn how colorectal cancer screening can prevent cancer entirely or catch it early, improving chances of survival
- Ask an expert about ways to improve and maintain digestive health
Owensboro Health’s Comprehensive Community Cancer Program is accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeon.
