A 23-year-old Daviess County man is facing several charges after striking a deputy with his vehicle and fleeing the scene with a child in the car, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a release, DCSO Patrol Deputies and General Investigations Unit Detectives were searching for Noah Leach in the 100 block of Maple Street in Owensboro on April 23 in reference to several ongoing investigations and a felony parole violation warrant. While in the area, detectives received information that Leach was possibly at the Daviess County Public Library.
“Sgt. Jakob Klotzback arrived at DCPL and located Leach sitting in his car in the parking lot. A 2-year-old juvenile was in the vehicle with Leach,” according to DCSO. “Sgt. Klotzback approached Leach and told him to step out of his vehicle, but Leach suddenly reversed from his parking space and fled the area.
Sgt. Klotzback had been standing beside the suspect’s vehicle as it fled, and the driver’s door was open, striking Sgt. Klotzback and forcing him to take immediate evasive action to avoid being dragged and seriously injured by the vehicle.”
According to the release, Klotzback was not injured and immediately broadcast a description of the vehicle to other units over the radio.
Leach was eventually located by DCSO in the 1900 block of McCulloch Avenue.
“Following a brief standoff during which Leach refused to come out of the home, Leach was arrested and taken to DCSO for questioning,” the release says.
