The Green River Building Industry Association (GRBIA) is partnering with Envision Contractors and several others in the building industry to host a career fair on April 24. With more than 30 companies in attendance, the fair starts at 2:30 p.m. at Towne Square Center, formerly Towne Square Mall.
GRBIA Executive Officer Adam Hicks encourages job seekers to bring their resumes and be ready for on-the-spot interviews.
“There is a big hole when it comes to employees in the construction business,” Hicks said. “Several projects are taking longer than usual because of the labor shortage. We want to create awareness and encourage more individuals to consider a profession in the industry.”
The event follows the association’s 2024 Construction Career Day, where organizers expect over 500 high school and college students to participate in hands-on opportunities with several industry leaders.
The career day aligns with the association’s current initiative of raising awareness about positions in the industry.
“High school students often get a little scared about what they’re going to do after school,” Hicks said. “We’re trying to let them know there are local opportunities to earn a solid income right out of high school or after 1 to 2 years in tech school.”
Hicks said there will also be a live crane on site that students could experiment with firsthand.
