Kentucky State Police has identified the Owensboro man who died in a vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon on KY 81 in McLean County.
According to a release, KSP Post 16 – Henderson received a call from McLean County Dispatch just after 2 p.m. regarding of a two-vehicle collision on KY 81 at the intersection of KY 140, about 5 miles north of Calhoun.
KSP reported that a preliminary investigation revealed that one driver was traveling on KY 140 in a Chevrolet Blazer. That driver pulled out onto KY 81 in front of 73-year-old Barry Vanover, of Owensboro, who was operating a box truck and traveling southbound on KY 81.
Vanover unsuccessfully attempted an evasive maneuver to avoid striking the other driver but lost control and drove off into an earth embankment, according to KSP. Vanover was pronounced dead on scene by the McLean County Coroner’s Office.
The other driver was treated on scene for non-life-threatening injuries. It is believed both operators were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision, according to KSP.
KY 81 was shut down for 4 hours as troopers reconstructed the collision. The investigation is ongoing by the Kentucky State Police.
The McLean County Sheriff’s Office, Central Fire Department, McLean County EMS, McLean County Coroner’s Office, and Kenergy assisted troopers at the scene.
