Audubon Area Community Services is accepting applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) through May 31. The Spring Subsidy Cooling Component is designed to help offset a household’s electric costs, providing eligible households with a one-time benefit ranging from $38 to $200, depending on income levels and housing category.

Applications will be accepted during the enrollment period or until designated funds are depleted on a first-come, first-served basis. The program’s income eligibility is up to and including 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Benefits are paid directly to the electric vendor.

Interested households should contact Audubon Area Community Services at 270-686-1662 to apply. All applicants will be required to supply the following documentation at the time of application:

  • Proof of Social Security Number or Permanent Residence card (Green Card) for each household member.
  • Proof of income from the preceding month for all members of the household.
  • Most current electric bills, a statement from your landlord if electricity is included in your rent, and a statement from a utility company if you participate in a pre-pay electric program.
  • The account number and name on the account for the primary heating fuel sources and electric bill.

Spring Subsidy does not require a disconnect notice, a past-due bill, or an eviction notice. The subsidy benefit can be applied as a credit to your account. Assistance received during previous LIHEAP components does not affect a household’s eligibility.

Community Action Kentucky administers LIHEAP through Audubon Area Community Services in partnership with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, which receives funding as a pass-through block grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
