A 26-year-old Owensboro man is facing multiple drug charges following an investigation and execution of a search warrant, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a release, the DCSO Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant on Monday at an apartment building in the 600 block of Byers Avenue. The target of the search warrant, Amarion J. McKenzie, was home at the time and was charged with multiple drug offenses, per the release.
“The search warrant was obtained by detectives in response to complaints of an ongoing drug trafficking operation taking place within the residence,” the release says. “Several controlled buys of illegal narcotics were made by detectives during the investigation. Evidence located during the search included a large quantity of psilocybin mushrooms, several baggies of marijuana, a jar of suspected MDMA (ecstasy), digital scales, U.S. currency, a money counter, several baggies for packaging, and various drug paraphernalia.”
McKenzie’s vehicle was also searched and contained several household items with false bottoms believed to be used for transporting illegal drugs, according to the release. All evidence was seized and logged in by DCSO.
McKenzie was taken to the Daviess County Detention Center on the following charges:
- Trafficking Controlled Substance, 1st Degree — 1st Offens (LSD) (2 counts)
- Trafficking Controlled Substance, 1st Degree — 1st Offense (Drug Unspecified) (3 counts)
- Trafficking Controlled Substance, 1st Degree — 1st Offense (Drug Unspecified) (3 counts)
- Trafficking in Marijuana (less than 8 oz) — 2nd > Offense
- Drug Paraphernalia – Buy/Possess
