OPD: Disturbance leads to gun, drug charges for 24-year-old

A 24-year-old Owensboro man has been charged with assault and several drug-related offenses following a disturbance Wednesday morning, according to the Owensboro Police Department.

According to a release, at approximately 7:13 a.m. officers were dispatched to a disturbance call on Surrey Drive West. Officers located Cameron Jackson a short time later at West 9th and Frederica streets, where patrol units charged him with the following fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) – minor injury.

According to OPD, further investigation led to the discovery of more than $12,000 in cash, a loaded handgun, a large amount of suspected fentanyl pills, and other evidence indicative of narcotics trafficking. 

Jackson was charged with the following at that time, according to OPD: 
• Trafficking Controlled Sub – 1st degree, 1st off (<2gms Meth-Enhancement) 
• Trafficking Controlled Sub- 1st degree, 1st off (<4gms Cocaine Enhancement) 
• Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon 
• Agg. Trafficking in Controlled Substance > 28gms Fentanyl-Enhancement

OPD Street Crimes Unit furthered their investigation by obtaining a search warrant for a residence belonging to Jackson. 

“There, detectives seized approximately 2 lbs of suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, and other evidence indicative of narcotics trafficking,” the release says. “A handgun, 2 rifles, and a shotgun were also located inside the residence. In relation to this search warrant, Jackson was additionally charged with the following, per OPD: 
• Trafficking Controlled Sub – 1st degree, 1st off (>or= 2gms Meth Enhancement) 
• Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon 
• Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon 
• Trafficking in Controlled Sub – 1st degree, 1st off (< 4gms Cocaine Enhancement) 
• Drug Paraphernalia – Buy/Possess 
• Possession of Marijuana 

According to OPD, Jackson has been previously convicted of the following: 
• Manslaughter – 2nd Degree 
• Tampering With Physical Evidence 
• Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm) 
• Trafficking in Marijuana, Less than 8 oz, 1st offense 
• Possession Controlled Sub – 1st degree, 1st offense (Methamphetamine)   

The case is still under investigation by OPD Street Crimes Unit.
