A short portion of Fairview Drive North at the intersection with KY 54 will be closed for up to 3 weeks starting on July 8, according to the Kentucky Transportation Department.

A contractor working for KYTC is continuing to locate and move utilities in the path of the expanding roadway. Beginning on July 8, the contractor will block the entrance to Fairview Drive North off of KY 54 to remove a retaining wall within the state right-of-way.

The closure will only include the section of Fairview Drive between KY 54 and the entrance to CVS Pharmacy. The remainder of the road will remain open.

This blockage is expected to last up to 3 weeks, KYTC officials said.

There will not be a marked detour, but motorists can access the area by either using the Walmart entrance to Mount Mariah Avenue or by taking Hayden Road and Calumet Trace.

This is one of the final steps before Phase One of the highway project can begin, according to KYTC. During that phase, while all lanes of KY 54 will remain open, a 10-foot lane restriction will be implemented.

Eastbound lanes will be shifted to allow construction on the south side of the roadway to begin.

A Phase One lane shift date is expected to be announced within the next 2 weeks.
