Owensboro Community & Technical College has a 10-month associate’s Surgical Technology program with a track record of success over the last decade. Program graduates have earned a 100% first-time pass rate for 10 consecutive years on the national certification exam.
“Ten years with a 100% first-time pass rate is a phenomenal record,” said OCTC President Dr. Scott Williams. “It truly speaks to the quality of the program and we are so proud of this accomplishment, it is a testament to how well the program prepares the students.”
Surgical technologists, also called operating room technicians, assist in surgical operations. They work as members of a surgical team alongside surgeons, registered nurses, and other healthcare workers. Surgical technologists prepare operating rooms, instrumentation, medications, and equipment to help doctors before, during, and after surgeries.
“There is a tremendous number of opportunities for surg techs in today’s market. Surgical Technology is a great option for a healthcare career,” said program coordinator Zara Basham.
Upon completing the program, students are eligible to take the national professional certification exam administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). The program has a limited number of seats available each year.
The program begins accepting applications for the August 2025 cohort in February. For more information, contact Basham at [email protected] or call 270-686-4650.
