DCSO: Arrest made in Yelvington thefts, burglaries investigation after suspect tried to flee

The suspect in a string of thefts and burglaries in the Yelvington area is facing numerous charges after he attempted to flee law enforcement in a vehicle and on foot, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a release, DCSO’s General Investigations Unit and Patrol Division have been investigating several thefts and burglaries that have occurred in the Yelvington area during the summer of 2024. 

Scottie Lee Brooks, 54, of the 1000 block of Yelvington-Grandview Road, was identified as the suspect, according to DCSO. 

Patrol deputies went to a residence in the 1000 block of Yelvington- Grandview Road on August 21 to arrest Brooks on several warrants. 

“While deputies approached the home, Brooks fled into a wooded area behind a residence. Additional deputies and detectives responded to the wooded area to search for Brooks but after several hours, he was unable to be located,” according to DCSO.

According to the release, at approximately 7:30 a.m. on August 23, a DCSO detective was in the Yelvington area and observed Brooks pulling out of a driveway in the 9300 block of KY 405. 

“The detective initiated his emergency lights and attempted to pull Brooks over, but Brooks continued southbound and fled,” DCSO said. “A vehicle pursuit was initiated during which Brooks ran the stop sign at the intersection of KY 405 and KY 662 before making a left turn onto KY 662. He then continued to flee east on KY 662 and turned onto Yelvington-Grandview Road before abandoning his vehicle in the 1000 block of Yelvington- Grandview Road and continuing to flee on foot. Additional detectives and deputies responded, and a perimeter was set up.”

Brooks was eventually located in the 1000 block of Yelvington-Grandview Road, per DCSO. 

He was taken to the DCSO Criminal Investigations Division for questioning before being charged and lodged at the Daviess County Detention Center.

Additional charges are expected as investigations continue, according to the release. DCSO listed his current charges as follows:

  • Wanton Endangerment – 1st Degree  (2 counts)
  • Wanton Endangerment – 1st Degree (Police Officer)
  • Fleeing or Evading Police – 1st Degree
  • Fleeing or Evading Police – 2nd Degree
  • Disregarding Stop Sign
  • Failure To or Improper Signal (2 counts)
  • Failure to Wear Seatbelts
  • Criminal Trespassing – 2nd Degree
  • Burglary – 3rd Degree
  • Tamping with Physical Evidence
  • Failure to Appear Bench Warrants (3 counts)
  • Failure to Pay Fine Bench Warrant
