The Take 5 Express Oil Change, which opened on the south end of Frederica Street in April, has closed. Manager Jerry Ward said he and his staff were alerted of the closing last Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and effectively ceased operations at 7 p.m. that evening.

Ward cited unforeseen legal circumstances with the franchisee, but that was all the information he had been extended.

“We were working for a brand new franchise,” he said. “We were told it was a legal matter, but they couldn’t tell me anything else.”

Ward said they initially told him they would only be closed for two days, but it’s already been a week. He said he’s heard it could reopen with a new franchisee or under leadership from the corporate office.

According to him, the current franchisee is “completely done.”

Take 5 employed nine individuals, including Ward. He said most have landed or are currently searching for positions elsewhere.

Take 5 Oil Change was a quick lube service featuring a drive-thru concept that allowed customers never to leave their cars. According to Driven Brands, it offers an on-average 10-minute oil change service and ancillary services such as air filter replacement, wiper blade changes, and coolant exchanges.

Take 5’s corporate office had not responded to OT’s request for comment at the time of publication.
