It was a great weekend as Apollo, Owensboro, and Owensboro Catholic all beat their respective opponents.
Apollo 7, Hopkins County Central 2
Valor Smith scored twice and recorded an assist in the Eagles 7-2 route over Hopkins County Central. Omid Hanafi, Ahmad Hanafi, Jason Perez, Utukufu Lukalula, and Asukulu Juma scored while goalie Luke Mattingly recorded three saves.
“I’m proud of our boys for bouncing back today,” Apollo head coach Nikos Agisilaou said. “We played more of a complete game. The two goals we allowed were off of our mistakes and we have to limit those in the defensive third. We are working on the small details that make a big difference. We did some today. As we are almost halfway through the season, we need to start putting those things together.”
Owensboro 6, North Hardin 0
Peter Mbayu took over the game, scoring off an impressive free kick and finishing with four goals in Owensboro’s 6-0 win over North Hardin. Byruhanga Mutabozi and Max Knoop scored the other two goals, while Ryan Sovor added three assists. Keeper Landon Black finished with two saves.
“We played very well on the defensive end tonight, only allowing two shots,” Owensboro head coach Ryan Haley said. “They did a good job getting into the midfield, but we were able to take advantage of the flanks and got in behind. This kinda spread them out in which we were able to attack the middle.”
Owensboro Catholic 2, Russellville 1
Luke Pfeifer scored twice, and Ben Dawson finished with five saves as the Aces toppled Russellville 2-1. Joseph Kurtz and JW Kurtz assisted on the two goals.
“It was the result we wanted, and we played with good control of the game in moments of the game,” Owensboro Catholic head coach Andy Donohoe said. “We must look to build on those moments to create more for ourselves. It was a performance from which we can take positives and identify improvement areas.”
