Apollo High School’s football team delivered a dominant performance Friday night, shutting out Muhlenberg County 41-0 on the road. The Eagles set the tone early and never looked back, moving their record to 3-2 with the commanding win.
Junior quarterback Max Johnson wasted no time, connecting with junior receiver Ehmadjai Badger for a touchdown just 1:38 into the game. The 11-yard strike gave Apollo an early 7-0 lead, and the Eagles’ offense continued to roll from there.
Senior running back Niles Board added to the tally with a 5-yard touchdown run later in the first quarter. Despite a missed extra point, Apollo took a 13-0 lead into the second quarter. Board found the end zone again midway through the second on a 10-yard run, putting the Eagles up 19-0 at halftime.
Johnson and Badger connected for another highlight in the third quarter, with a 41-yard touchdown pass. Sophomore John Milburn punched in the two-point conversion, extending Apollo’s lead to 27-0. Moments later, Johnson found Board again for a 41-yard touchdown, and Board added the extra point to make it 35-0.
Apollo’s defense sealed the victory with a pick-six from senior Jamison Brown, who intercepted a Muhlenberg pass and returned it for a score with four minutes left in the third quarter.
The Eagles’ defense was tough all night, stifling the Mustangs and preventing any scoring opportunities.
Apollo will look to carry this momentum into their City-County and district matchup against Owensboro on the road next Friday.
