A 14-year-old was arrested after being found armed with a handgun containing an extended magazine, according to the Owensboro Police Department.
According to a release, shortly after midnight on September 5, night shift patrol officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of West 5th and Locust streets.
“Multiple subjects got out of the car and ran from the traffic stop through nearby yards,” the release says. “Additional officers arrived in the area and located a male juvenile who continued to flee. As officers pursued the individual on foot, he began reaching into his pants. After a short foot pursuit, a 14-year-old juvenile was taken into custody. This juvenile was armed with a handgun that contained an extended magazine.”
Officials said the juvenile was lodged at the Warren County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of third-degree fleeing and evading police, third-degree criminal trespassing, and possession of a handgun by a minor (first offense).
