An Owensboro man is facing several charges including drug trafficking and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun following the execution of a search warrant, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a release, at approximately 9 a.m. on September 27, detectives with the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU) executed a search warrant in the 2500 block of Ebach Street in response to complaints of ongoing drug trafficking at the residence.
Within the last 6 months, SIU conducted controlled undercover buys of marijuana and LSD from the homeowner, Matthew Newton, 25, according to DCSO.
“During the search warrant, detectives located and seized oxycodone, multiple pounds of marijuana, Xanax, digital scales with residue, a Glock handgun with an extended magazine, clonazepam, empty vacuum-sealed bags with marijuana residue, numerous rounds of ammunition, and U.S. currency. A subsequent search of Newton’s vehicle resulted in additional seizures of drug paraphernalia, marijuana, ammunition, and U.S. currency,” the release reads.
Newton was lodged at the Daviess County Detention Center on the following charges, according to DCSO
- Trafficking in Marijuana, 1st Offense (While Armed)
- Trafficking Controlled Substance – 3rd Degree, 1st Offense (While Armed)
- Possession Controlled Substances – 3rd Degree (Unspecified Drug) (While Armed)
- Possession Controlled Substances – 1st Degree, 1st Offense (Opiates)(While Armed)
- Trafficking Controlled Substances – 1st Degree, 1st Offense (LSD)
- Trafficking in Marijuana (less than 8oz), 1st Offense
- Drug Paraphernalia – Possess/Buy (While Armed)
- Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon
