Another person from Owensboro has been arrested and more charges have been added to federal indictments for several of the individuals involved in the large-scale drug trafficking investigation that resulted in several raids in August 2024. Large amounts of meth, cocaine, fentanyl pills, and guns have been seized during the investigation.
“The Owensboro Police Department’s efforts to protect our community will never cease,” officials said in a release.
The joint operation was conducted by the Owensboro Police Department with the DEA and IRS. A federal grand jury in Louisville charged a total of 37 defendants — including many from Owensboro — from across Kentucky and California in five separate indictments involving methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine trafficking offenses and firearms offenses.
The investigation has continued and resulted in another search warrant and arrest on federal drug charges.
On the morning of October 30, OPD’s Emergency Response Team secured a residence in the 1400 block of Hall Street and took William Stewart, age 51, of Owensboro, into custody, according to OPD.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division and Street Crime Unit executed a search warrant and served a federal indictment warrant on Stewart for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to a release.
Additionally, multiple individuals from the August 2024 raids have added charges to their federal indictments, OPD officials said. This continues to be an ongoing and evolving investigation.
“To date, 96 separate federal charges have been handed out, 280 lbs of methamphetamine, 26 lbs of cocaine, a large quantity of fentanyl pills, 34 guns — including a fully automatic Glock— and $340,000 cash has been seized,” according to OPD.
