The Daviess County Clerk’s Office wants to make drivers aware of an upcoming change regarding the renewal of government, university, and miscellaneous specialty license plates.
Renewals for specialty plates were previously due in December. Recently, the decision was made by Motor Vehicle Licensing (MVL) to change the expiration dates of the plate types listed below to drivers’ birth months to properly adhere to Kentucky Revised Statutes.

- Fraternal Order of Police
- Judicial
- Kentucky State University
- Masonic Order
- Morehead State University
- Murray State University
- Northern Kentucky University
- Representative
- Representative Duplicate
- Senator
- Senator Duplicate
- Street Rod
- PERS Street Rod
- University of Kentucky
- University of Louisville
- Western Kentucky University
As a result of this decision, some customers whose birth dates fall in January will receive an upcoming notice in the mail about plate renewal, even if they paid registration in December.
The Clerk’s Office may also contact customers utilizing web renewal or mail-in applications, so everyone can be made aware of the expiration date change on these plates.
