Owensboro Community & Technical College was recognized again earlier this year as one of the best employers in higher education nationally, according to the “Great Colleges to Work For” program.
The results, released in a recent special insert of The Chronicle of Higher Education, are based on a survey of 216 colleges and universities. These included 139 four-year institutions and 77 two-year institutions. In all, 75 of those institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies, including 53 four-year institutions and 22 two-year institutions. Results are reported for small, medium, and large institutions, with OCTC included among the medium category with 3,000 to 9,999 students.
OCTC has also received this prestigious designation in 2016, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
“This is a very satisfying confirmation of the college, but our real goal is not recognition — it’s being a community that values the needs and contributions of every individual. In that sense, everyone at OCTC helps to make this a great place to work. It is truly our passion to help students succeed.” said OCTC President Scott Williams.
The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captures employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was employee feedback.
