Theatre Workshop of Owensboro (TWO) will hold auditions for its upcoming production of Loose Knit on Sunday and Monday. The play follows five women in New York City who meet weekly to knit but end up unraveling their complicated personal lives.
Auditions will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at 6 p.m. Monday at the Trinity Centre, which will also host the performances.
Directed by Dan Heckel and written by Theresa Rebeck, Loose Knit is the fourth production in TWO’s comedy season. Heckel said the story examines modern relationships through a witty, contemporary lens.
“It’s a very funny, adult comedy about a group of women who come together to knit and vent about their lives and the men in them,” Heckel said. “I like plays where people seem like real people, and I think audiences will recognize themselves or people they know in these characters.”
The production requires a cast of five women and two men, with roles open to individuals in their mid-20s to late 40s. No prior preparation is needed, as audition sides will be provided.
“This is an ensemble cast where all the roles are substantial and interesting,” Heckel said. “The women are strong, opinionated characters, and the men — well, they’re not exactly nice guys, which can be fun roles to play.”
The play will open on Valentine’s Day and run for two weekends, with performances scheduled for February 14-16 and 21-23.
Heckel, who has been involved with TWO since 2011, said he is confident in the talent Owensboro has to offer, even with a six-week rehearsal schedule.
“We’ll start rehearsals on January 6, meeting three nights a week for a couple of hours at a time,” Heckel said. “It’s an intense schedule, but we’ve got some great actors in Owensboro, and I’m confident we’ll put on a fantastic show.”
The production is sponsored by Travis and Christy Chaney, with season sponsorship from Owensboro Health.
