U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds fly in formation downtown Saturday afternoon.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds are returning to Owensboro for the 2026 Air Show. While the City of Owensboro is not holding an Air Show in 2025, officials teased that a new event will be held in its place.

The announcement was made Tuesday morning during the International Council of Airshows (ICAS) conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“We are thrilled to announce the Thunderbirds are coming back again in 2026,” said Tim Ross, Director of Public Events for the City of Owensboro. “The Owensboro Air Show has exploded in recent years with the largest crowds we have ever had. We have built a fantastic reputation in the air show industry which allows us to bring in the best civilian and military teams from around the world and draw visitors from throughout the entire country. I am beyond excited to welcome the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds team back to Owensboro again in 2026.”

There won’t be an Air Show in Owensboro next year, but Ross said the City is gearing up for a captivating new event in the fall of 2025.

“This new event promises to be an incredible experience for both the community and visitors. Details will be officially announced in early January,” Ross said.

The Owensboro Air Show will return September 11–13, 2026.
