Hancock County held off McLean County, while Daviess County and Trinity (Whitesville) both won. In other action, Apollo lost to Greenwood.
Hancock County 5, McLean County 4
The Hornets scored four runs in the top of the third to beat the Cougars 5-4. McLean County scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh but weren’t able to finish the comeback.
Dec Lewko and Porter Hay both went 2-4 with an RBI to lead Hancock County’s offense. Dylan Mucker and Louden Fluharty each added an RBI. Lewko got the start on the mound, giving up one unearned run over six innings, while striking out six.
“Tonight was an outstanding pitching performance by Dec Lewko,” Hancock County head coach Tony Banta said. We had solid defense, timely hitting, and several strong individual performances. We worked our way out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth inning and it was a solid team performance.”
For McLean County, Jax Lee, Brooks Lynam, and Ayden Rice all had RBIs. Corbin Martin started, allowing one earned run over 2 2/3 innings. Nash Lee came in on relief, throwing 4 1/3 shutout innings.
“We did not play very well,” McLean County head coach Darren Lynam said. “We made too many mental mistakes. But credit to Dec Lewko, he threw very well.”
Greenwood 4, Apollo 3
Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Greenwood walked off Apollo 4-3. Will Wilkins finished 2-3, with an RBI, while Sam Holder went 1-3 with an RBI. Garrett Lanham had the team the Eagles only other hit
On the mound, G Smith allowed one earned run across four innings, striking out seven. Lanham relieved him, allowing one earned run across 2 2/3 innings, striking out six.
Daviess County 8, Breckinridge County 5
Falling behind 3-0 early, the Panther scored eight unanswered runs, beating Breckinridge County 8-5. Brett Poole and Gavin Howard provided four of the team’s seven RBIs, while Lucas Ward went 2-5 with an RBI and Harper Lucas stole home.
Brodie Tucker allowed one earned run over four innings, while striking out three. Poole came on in relief, striking out three over three shutout innings.
“Defensively, we were pretty sloppy,” Daviess County head coach Austin Clay said. “I thought Tucker and Poole both threw well. We hit the ball well, but our approach still needs some work.”
Trinity (Whitesville) 9, Bluegrass Braves 8
Tied 8-8 in the top of the seventh, Cale Boarman came through with an RBI single to power the Raiders to a 9-8 win over the Bluegrass Braves. Boarman and Rylan Cecil combined for seven hits and six RBOIs, while Connor Hatfield and Kayin Howard had the teams three other RBIs.
Grant Howard started on the mound, allowing six earned runs over 1 1/3 innings, striking out one. Boarman and Howard both pitched out of the bullpen, combing to allow two runs over 5 2/3 innings, striking out four.
“I was pleased with how the boys kept battling back tonight,” Trinity (Whitesville) head coach Matt Wright said. “They got down early, but kept making plays on defense that propelled them on the offensive end. It was good the see the team have that fight in them until the end.”
