The Daviess County Clerk’s Office has launched a free service that alerts residents any time a mortgage or deed is filed in their name — a move aimed at helping property owners guard against fraud.
Known as “Doc Alert,” the system notifies subscribers via email whenever a document with their name is recorded in county land records. Count Clerk Leslie McCarty said the service was made possible through a partnership with Software Management, LLC., at no cost to the county or the user.
“With fraud becoming more and more prevalent, there’s been a growing demand for services like this,” McCarty said. “It was one of my goals for the year, and when our vendor started offering it for free, I jumped on board.”
To sign up, residents can visit docalert.ecclix.com or access information through the county’s website at daviessky.org/docalert. Users can enter up to five names — personal or business — to receive alerts. Each name must be entered exactly as it appears on official documents.
McCarty said the new program reflects broader efforts statewide to combat real estate fraud.
“This is something many County Clerks across Kentucky have started doing in the past few years,” she said. “It’s a hot topic at conferences and within our associations.”
Rachel Foster, Property Valuation Administrator for Daviess County, praised the initiative.
“With the Clerk’s permission, we already include copies of recent deeds on our website, and we’ve gotten calls asking if there’s anything in place to protect against deed fraud,” Foster said. “I’m happy the Clerk’s Office is now offering this — it’s another level of protection.”
McCarty noted that legislation in recent years has required clerks to make decades of land records available online, including deeds, mortgages, and wills.
“That’s great for transparency, but it also means people’s personal information is more accessible — and that can make them nervous,” she said. “This tool helps people stay informed and act quickly if something doesn’t look right.”
