Update, March 13 — The second person who was injured in a single-vehicle accident on March 2 has died from his injuries.
According to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, 54-year-old Gregory Kaelin died on March 10 from injuries sustained in the accident.

March 3 — A 79-year-old Owensboro man died from injuries sustained Sunday night in a single-vehicle accident on U.S. 431, authorities say.
According to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch received a report of a single-vehicle accident with injuries in the 12000 block of U.S. 431 near the Daviess/McLean County line.
Emergency crews discovered a pickup truck that left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a tree, causing serious injuries to both occupants, authorities said. The driver of the vehicle, James Kaelin, was trapped inside the vehicle due to the severity of the damage.
Fire and rescue crews were able to free Kaelin from the wreckage, and he was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital via air ambulance, the release says. The passenger, Gregory Kaelin, 54, was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital by AMR Ambulance.
On Monday, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office notified DCSO that James Kaelin died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, the release says.
The collision is being investigated by the DCSO Patrol Division’s Accident Reconstruction Unit. Both lanes of U.S. 431 were closed for approximately 4 hours.
Additional units responding to the scene included the Daviess County Fire Department, Utica Fire Department, and Air Evac Lifeteam.
